Review of the work of the Town Team this year
Review of the work of the Town Team this year
The Town Team volunteers continue to champion improvements across Barnes. For those of you who aren’t regular Prospect readers, here is a quick run through of our major projects and achievements this year:
White Hart Lane footbridge
After years of campaigning the new footbridge at White Hart Lane level crossing was opened at the end of March making the crossing safer for everyone who uses it.
Suffolk Road rec playground
This fabulous new natural playground with giant sandpit and trampoline was opened to the public in February and is being well used by local families.
Cinema events raise funds for water fountain on Barnes Green
We delivered two fabulous films on the Green this summer to raise funds for a new drinking fountain on Barnes Green. We still have a way to go but are optimistic we can reach our target and get our fountain installed before the spring.
Plans for step free access at Barnes Bridge station as part of green walkway project.
We have applied for a grant which will enable us to assess the feasibility of installing step-free access at Barnes Bridge station as part of a wider project to restore the original Barnes Bridge to community use.
Bids for the future of Barnes
After years of planning and campaigning we successfully secured funding for works needed to address the major challenges on the High Street and are working with the Council to deliver these changes. We are also working with the Council on a multi-million pound bid for TfL’s Liveable Neighbourhood fund.
Mural at Barnes Bridge
And finally…. sick of looking at the old and dirty tiles under Barnes Bridge, with the support of Network Rail, and using their artist who has done many similar projects on Network Rail bridges, we have applied for funding for a mural. If we are successful this project should be delivered in the spring.
