John McNeilly

Our current Chair is also a Microsoft Certified Professional and a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians with a comprehensive background in financial systems and logistics. Johns’ expertise includes leading significant projects in Finance, Trade, and Logistics. His career also includes impactful work at The Richmond Fellowship International and the Fellowship Charitable Foundation, where he contributed to the organisations' missions. John's diverse experience is complemented by his interests in all things Barnes, as well as swimming, sci-fi, and squash. John prides himself in his dedication to both professional and ongoing personal growth.

Marsha Perkins

Our Honorary Treasurer, Marsha qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in the US and relocated to the UK in 2000. She has been volunteering in roles in Southwest London Day schools for over a decade, Marsha worked as Treasurer and project manager.  As a finance professional with British Land and Wates Group, and for The Crown Estate, she gained extensive experience in budgeting and reporting.  With Street Invest, a Consortium for street children, she reported in accordance with charity rules.  Recently she assisted with BCA events and volunteered for OSO Arts Centre.   Marsha is thrilled to live in such a vibrant, inclusive community in Barnes where there is so much available right here on our doorstep.

 

Steven Mindel

Steven has been a familiar face in Barnes for over half a century. His journey with the BCA began with his role in organising the Barnes Charity Fashion Show, an event that has since become a highlight in the local calendar. Previously serving as BCA Chair for four years, he is back after taking a brief break away, and has returned with renewed energy and purpose. Steven has been instrumental in the Barnes Men's Shed, an initiative aimed at promoting social interaction and skill-sharing among men. His enduring dedication continues to make a marked difference in the community he calls home and is currently our Vice Chair.

Lynn McInnes

Residing in Barnes for the past two decades, Lynn is committed to the local community and local environment and is actively engaged in academic pursuits that align with her passion for sustainability. Her background as a seasoned strategic marketeer for Microsoft and other blue-chip companies led to her establishing her own marketing company, dedicated to collaborating with start-ups and not-for-profit organisations. She has also volunteered and worked extensively with a range of charitable organisations, including the NSPCC, The Royal Brompton Hospital, FISH, The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, as well as the Richmond Trussell Trust. Lynn currently holds the the role of Honorary Secretary.

 

Matthew Purser

Following a brave but unsuccessful attempt to become a racing driver, Matthew now has a successful career in commercial property, working with global organisations including PepsiCo, T-Mobile and Microsoft. In 2002, Matthew opened a London office for Studley as Managing Director and oversaw its growth into a platform serving global clients, he later joining Savills following the acquisition of Studley. Matthew has a special connection with media and creative industry organisations, working with BBC, Time-Warner, Formula One, and other streaming services. Matthew has a strong commitment to community endeavours in Barnes and is also a trustee of The Barnes Fund.

Raphael ZacharyYounger

Raphael has a passion for conservation, community, and activism, which compelled him to join the Big Barnes Ponder back in 2013. Working as a member of the Barnes Town Team and the BCA Environment Group, which he later became chair.  Raphael is a driver of ideas and has a go-getting attitude which has resulted in many initiatives in and around Barnes over the last decade. From The Hammersmith Bridge Rickshaw service, the community Cargo bikes and the restoration of the Olympic phone box. More recently the mural under Barnes Bridge and the Community Parklet.

 

Jo Jacobson

With over 20 years of experience in communications, marketing, and branding, Jo is dedicated to driving positive change and fostering community development. She has worked across all sectors, leading teams in organisations such as Barnardo's Children's Charity, The Ministry of Justice, The Poppy Factory, and Heathrow Airport. Jo loves living in Barnes and wants to use her skills and experience to support the Association's mission, continuing to make Barnes a great place to live for her family and friends.

Dr Sandy Urquhart 

Sandy has been an active member of the Barnes community for about 25 years.  She started her life in Barnes as a young bellringer at St Mary’s Church.  She has considerable experience with local fundraising as part of the PTFA at St Osmond’s Catholic Primary School and as the Chair of the Barnes Charity Fashion Show that raises funds for local charities, such as FiSH, The Friends of St Mary’s Barnes and Home Start. Sandy is a lawyer with over 20 years of legal experience as a Chancery Barrister in Lincoln’s Inn. Her core areas of practice are general commercial litigation and being a specialist in contract law. She is also an academic and achieved her Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Sandy has worked as a Senior Lecturer and was previously the Programme Leader for the Postgraduate LLM in Commercial Law & Legal Practice. She has valuable skills that will be enormously useful as a member of the Governance Committee, as well as more generally across BCA projects.

Carrie Spurgeon

Carrie runs a specialist publishing and communications company for the global flower industry, her passion stemming from her grandfather who opened the garden centre known as Capital in Sheen in the 1940s. Carrie is also a long term local, born on Richmond Hill and over the past 25 years has lived and raised her family in Barnes.  A volunteer for the BCA since 1994, she is also the voice behind the microphone at the Barnes Fairs and is often seen sporting a Hi-Viz jacket as she leads the fabulous team of volunteer traffic marshalls during BCA events. A Trustee since 2023 and she now sits across many of the BCA's Committees.
