BCA Friendly Carol Service with the FiSH Choir

Following the success of last year’s first ever dementia-friendly Christmas service in Barnes, the BCA has now made it a fixture on the calendar. Some may remember that last year the service was held at St Mary’s, but this year Holy Trinity Church, 162 Castelnau, Barnes, SW13 9ET will host the carol service with the FiSH Choir on Wednesday 12th December, from 2.30 to 3.30pm, doors open from 2pm.

What makes a service dementia friendly? The service will be shorter, the atmosphere more informal and there will be popular hymns and carols that will be familiar. There will also be flexibility for guests to sit, stand or move as they wish during the service. Merlene Emerson, Dementia Champion and BCA Trustee says “One in 14 people over the age of 65 has dementia, but it is possible to live well and to participate in festivities with friends and family. We want everyone in Barnes to understand more about this condition and to make Barnes a truly dementia-friendly village.”

If you would like more information about the service, or on dementia generally, please email merlene@barnes-ca.org.
