Common Keeper's Update - March 2016

The Egyptian Geese got a head start hatching 12 goslings on or around 1st January, of which 9 remain. Please keep dogs under close control around the pond area during spring and summer to prevent disturbance or injury to breeding birds and young. Current things to look out for on The Green;

  • Spring bulbs along Church Road and Station Road
  • Shoveler Ducks, a pair have been present since January and are characterised by their wide upturned bills
  • Cowslips, primrose, and wild daffodils in the wildflower meadows
  • Goldcrest, Britain’s smallest bird currently present in significant numbers over the Green and Common
