Barnes Music Festival 2019 programme

BARNES MUSIC FESTIVAL 2019 Music & Invention

The full programme for this year’s Barnes Music Festival from 9th to 24th March has been published and tickets are now on sale at Chestertons, the main festival sponsor, and online. The theme of Music & Invention has been inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s 500th anniversary with international stars and local groups giving fresh interpretations and exploring new ways to experience the music.

The festival opens on Saturday 9th March at St Mary’s with rising star violinist Fenella Humphreys playing Richter’s twist on the Four Seasons with the ever-inventive Bach’s Magnificat performed the following day at St Michael’s. Howard Goodall showcases his new composition Invictus while Alistair McGowan returns with pianist Lucy Parham to present Rêverie – the life and loves of Claude Debussy. Other highlights include Britten’s Turn of the Screw chamber opera and Rachmaninoff Vespers by the King’s College London Choir. The finals of the Barnes Young Musician of the Year competition take place at the beginning of the festival and many of the local schools are performing in the innovative Leonardo & his Flying Machines at the end of the festival.

The festival brochure is being distributed to every house in Barnes and copies can also be picked up at BCA Rose House, St Mary’s, St Michael’s and Chestertons as well as many retailers.
