BCA launches its appeal for used laptops and tablets for local schools
Digital Poverty is increasing across the UK, as home-learning requires our school children to access online lessons via a laptop, home computer or tablet device (e.g. an iPad). Ofcom estimates that up to 1.8m children in the UK do not have the neccessary equipment at home.
Many families in our community simply cannot afford the equipment necessary for their children to join home-learning classes.
We want to help change that.
Barnes Community Association has launched an appeal for used laptops and tablets (e.g. Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy) that can be refurbished and donated to our local schools.
If you have a laptop or tablet you no longer need, please consider donating it to help our younger generations. We need laptops and tablets no more than 10 years old which have their original power adaptor, internal webcam and speakers.
Each laptop drive and memory will be erased and reformatted - a process that deletes all stored data, files and images. Please see the important statement below.
We’re here to help with further guidance on making a laptop or tablet donation – please contact us at info@barnes-ca.org or by phone on 020 8878 2359.
Laptop or tablet donations can brought to Rose House, 70 Barnes High Street, on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next few weeks between 9AM and 2PM. Please observe current COVID restrictions by visiting Rose House as part of an essential journey or daily exercise, wearing a face mask, and keep a distance of 2m from other people. Alternatively, the equipment can be collected within Barnes & Mortlake, by prior arrangement. If you would like to leave your details ahead of drop-off, please click HERE to complete the form detailing your donation.
If you don’t have any suitable equipment to donate, but would like to make a financial contribution to the appeal, please click below to donate.
Thank you from us all at the BCA.
Barnes Community Association cannot be held responsible (whether in negligence or otherwise) for any personal data or any other information left on the machine. We recommend you copy any documents, images and data files you wish to keep onto an external memory device, such as a USB drive, ensuring that you have made appropriate back-ups before donating your computer to us. By donating your machine to us, you will be authorising us to delete your data and accepting the limitation on our liability described above.
